Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell is going ‘old school’ on his players at training this week after blasting their efforts, particularly on the physicality front, in a 53-point loss to Gold Coast. The four-time premiership hero was shattered at the end of a night where no single Hawks player had more than four tackles among a team total of just 43 to the Suns’ 60.

Fanatical’ Sam Mitchell floors greats with ‘direct’ demand of his players. Rattling off a laundry list of issues ranging from skill execution to the inability to follow a game plan, he was extremely critical of his side’s failure to handle Gold Coast’s pressure. “That’s just a completely unacceptable way to play and we should be past games like that,” Mitchell said, noting Hawthorn repeatedly coughed the ball up and failed to play to the conditions.
