Sheridan Smith’s troubled musical titled Opening Night has been canceled two months before its West End run was due to end after it was criticised by audiences. Producers said they took the decision to end the show due to a "challenging financial landscape".The production team added the play “may not have had the life we had hoped for”.Opening Night, based on the 1970s film of the same name about an actress in mental turmoil, had been due to run until July 27 in the West End.

Gavin & Stacey actress Smith plays leading lady Myrtle who, following witnessing a death, spins out of control while a theatre tries to stage a new play.At one point during the show, her character goes out onto the street to perform a scene while the audience watch from a screen inside.
