National Singer And Songstress Awards,PAPITA,Ministry Of Information

The National Singer and Songstress Awards are given to artists by the Association of Singers, Musicians, and Songwriters of the Homeland (PAPITA) through the Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture. So far, only four legendary singers have received this award, including the late Saloma in 1978, the late Sharifah Aini in 2006, and the late Tan Sri SM Salim in 2013. Saloma, whose real name is Amar Salmah Ismail, a Member of the Order of the Defender of the Realm (AMN), was the first recipient of the National Songstress award in 1978. The award she received is the result of her hard work and contributions to the local arts industry. Saloma's voice first resonated on the radio accidentally when she was 13 years old before making a name for herself in the entertainment industry as an actress in her first film titled Pelangi in the 1950s.

Suara Saloma pertama kali berkumandang di radio secara tidak sengaja ketika pelakon dan penyanyi itu berusia 13 tahun sebelum menempa nama di pentas seni sebagai pelakon dalam filem pertamanya bertajuk Pelangi sekitar tahun 1950-an. Isteri kepada seniman agung, Allahyarham Tan Sri P.Ramlee ini turut melakar sejarah apabila menjadi penyanyi wanita tempatan pertama yang mendapat tawaran syarikat terkemuka luar negara kerana kebolehan beliau menyanyi dalam Bahasa Inggeris.

Kejayaan demi kejayaan dilakar sehingga beliau berjaya menghasilkan 140 album setiap dekad termasuk album sulungnya berjudul Seri Dewi Malam. Antara kejayaan yang pernah dicapai oleh Datuk Sharifah Aini adalah apabila beliau dinobatkan sebagai Penghibur wanita pertama yang menerima anugerah di Festival Filem Asia Pasifik 1977 di Korea serta menjuarai pertandingan di Anugerah Lagu Asia Pasifik pada tahun 1975.
