Barrie Dunn, best known for his role as Ray Lafleur in Trailer Park Boys, is returning to his hometown to discuss his latest film.
Barrie Dunn said he filmed the movie in black and white because he felt like it heightened the sense of isolation and loneliness the characters experience as they confront mental illness. He said the characters are living in a black and white world and looking for colour. ContributedOn the surface, The Madones is a film about three sisters who were once successful musicians tackling life together as one sister suffers from severe mental illness, specifically schizophrenia.
“I think that there is a certain amount of humour in it. Never humour that laughs at the sufferer, but humour that could involve the person who's suffering and the family,” he added. A big part of the film is about the characters trying to find hope, which Dunn tried to capture in the colour grading. He said that he hopes that either a feature film or a series he’s hoping to create will be located in Pictou County.
