Beric Dondarrion treks beyond the wall with Jon Snow to capture a wight. By Travis M. Andrews Travis M. Andrews Pop culture reporter covering music, movies, TV, comedy and celebrity culture Email Bio Follow March 29 at 8:00 AM It’s simultaneously easier and more difficult than ever to watch your favorite TV shows. On one hand, it seems as if anything that’s ever been recorded is streaming. On the other hand, these shows are spread across myriad platforms, each requiring a subscription to access.
“Game of Thrones” wasn’t the most pirated show of last year, but that’s likely because it didn’t air any new episodes in 2018. According to TorrentFreak, that distinction belonged to “The Walking Dead,” followed by “The Flash.” It’s probable this will change soon, however, as HBO prepares to launch the final and most-anticipated season of “Game of Thrones” on April 14.
As the numbers show, these efforts haven’t been particularly effective. Common sense would suggest that the rise of streaming would help curb piracy, but it actually might have had the opposite effect.“Game of Thrones” is likely one of the final extremely popular shows in what’s come to be known as the Golden Age of Television — which began roughly with “The Sopranos” at the turn of the millennium. That age coincided with the rise of piracy.
That’s why Josh Randell, a resident of Corner Brook, N.L., pirated the show in 2017, despite receiving two warnings from HBO via his Internet service provider.
Legally paying for cable is immoral.
My mom said when she was young, tv was free.
Wow! Ignorence running wild
It's not illegal. It's just undocumented watching.
It's not illegal. It's just undocumented...
I paid the iron price, Lord Bezos
How do “illegally” watch GoT? Is there some law about watching GoT I don’t know about? 😗
Looollll.
I have a solution: Legalize cannabis and use the free police and prosecutor time made available to chase these people.
Lol, yes officer, this comment thread right here.
Winter is coming...
I watch legally thru stream service, I’m a proud contributor to the cable industry
I just stole the box sets from Target, because I'm that entitled to free entertainment. Libraries are free, you say?! HA! They might try to trick me into taking home one of the novels with a DVD, and I'm not down with free reading!
Who gives a F
Hawwwais us
All those thieves. I wonder what they'd do if there was a show about how we're hacking their brains and punishing people for sinning. Kind of a COPS meets Bait Car meets To Catch a Predator type deal.
I'm praying that HBO execs have enough to eat this week.
Any customer is king Us advert model is sm share, watch longer ad trp reach Success

Love but this sounds like an article from the early 2000’s. You can download or watch ANYTHING you want for free today. Any show. Any movie. Any song. Free. And that will never change as long as he internet exists.
I dont even watch this show but I download episodes out of spite just to help with seeding.
ground breaking journalism. wow. you really found this amazing unknown issue.
I pay for HBO, but I’m here for the ratio
It's almost like the distribution monopolies that traditional subscription video services rely on are totally unenforceable and unsustainable!
Cry me a river
Deal with it or tell your big-daddy Bezos to bring it Prime. The shows are awful over there man.
How can you 'illegally watch' something? I don't believe that is a crime.
I don't think watching otherwise legal content is a crime. It's how you obtain said content that is the issue.
Yup, I'm waiting
I download this all the time as I don’t want to pay for cable.
