A woman has fallen down an embankment and into a flooded stormwater drain during a storm in Victoria. The 58-year-old took a tumble just before 9pm on Monday and landed in the Raglan St drain in Daylesford. She was carried away in fast-flowing water for quite a distance before she reached a culvert where the water was up to her neck. There, she was able to grasp onto a metal pole and tried to scream out for help, but no one could hear her over the roar of the water.
She then walked to a friend’s house who lived nearby and has been treated for minor cuts and bruises. Severe weather lashed large parts of Victoria overnight and there are warnings for more heavy rainfall and damaging winds on Tuesday. The Geelong and Hawthorn AFL match at the MCG was halted for about 40 minutes because of lightning with players taken from the field and spectators urged to seek shelter.
