Tim Tszyu has missed out on emulating his famous father as a unified world champion after losing a bloody war with Sebastian Fundora in Las Vegas. The previously unbeaten Australian boxing star went into the bout hoping to hold the WBC and WBO belts, but a split decision sent the titles over to the unlikely new champion.
Blood flows after Tim Tszyu cops stray elbow. Tszyu was originally set to fight Keith Thurman before he pulled out with injury, promoting the lanky Fundora to the main event and creating a significant 23cm height mismatch. Fundora’s victory created his own slice of history as he joined his sister Gabriela as a champion after she captured the IBF flyweight title earlier this year. “It means the world,” he said after his win, scored 116-112, 115-113, 112-116 by the three judges.
