According to Deadline, Dafoe will play David Tebet in the upcoming film. Tebet was an American theater publicist and network executive who worked at NBC from 1956-1979.
During his tenure at the company, his biggest accomplishment was recruiting Johnny Carson to fill in as host of The Tonight Show for Jack Paar, a role that would see both Carson and The Tonight Show launch into superstardom. Set in 1975, the upcoming movie will chronicle the events leading up to the premiere of the very first episode of NBC’s Saturday Night Live.from a screenplay he co-wrote with Gil Kenan. It is being produced by Reitman, Kenan, Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills and Peter Rice.
