In an emotional interview, former defence minister Joel Fitzgibbon has revealed the moment he was told about his late son’s fatal parachuting incident.Mr Fitzgibbon described the life-changing moment he got the call about his son’s accident as “the worst” of his life.

Picture: Sky News “His mother worried more than I did, but not excessively and he’d always say ‘we’ll be right mum, it’s not a problem’. “And he got himself into trouble a couple of times, always when he’d been drinking too much alcohol, but I thought I knew maybe 10 per cent of the stories, I now know we knew about one per cent,” he said.
His sister, TV reporter Grace Fitzgibbon, told tearful attendees she was shattered by the loss but would continue to carry her brother’s memory “in my bones”.
