Good Morning Britain presenter Kate Garraway’s newest documentary airs on Tuesday 26 March and reveals Derek Draper’s final year before he died in January.
It’s not the first time Kate had shown the impact of caring for her husband as she’s also released two other documentaries, Finding Derek and Caring For Derek. However, in the new film, Kate goes into more detail about their experience - and how she’s struggled to afford Derek’s medical care.
During the hour-long ITV film, Kate added: "Time and time again the system tell us that Derek isn't sick enough, doesn't have enough of a health need to qualify for funded care. I've appealed but that still hasn't been processed two-and-a-half, three years later. If this is what it's like for me, what on Earth is it like for everybody else?
Kate continued: "Derek's care, the basic needs, not including any therapy, which I am happy to pay on top, is nearly £4,000 a week. How can I afford that? How can anybody afford £16,000 a month? Please God, there could be another 40 years of this."
