Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT After Christopher Nolan's latest film, Oppenheimer, won Best Picture at the 2024 Academy Awards, rumors began flying about what the director's next big project would be, and if Nolan truly does make a film adaptation of the sci-fi series, The Prisoner, that could mean disappointment for the future of the Tenet franchise. The Prisoner is a British television series that ran from 1967 to 1968.
2:08 Related Christopher Nolan's New Remake Would End A 22-Year Drought After His 92% Rotten Tomatoes Hit If Christopher Nolan's new movie is a remake, this re-imagining of an iconic miniseries could end a 22-year drought started by a beloved hit. The Prisoner Gives Christopher Nolan A New Sci-Fi Spy Movie To Replace Tenet Close If Christopher Nolan truly does make The Prisoner, this would be bad news for Tenet 2. In 2020, Nolan released his film Tenet to mixed reviews.
A big aspect of this is that Tenet and The Prisoner share many commonalities. Both follow a nameless protagonist put into a mysterious situation which they must unravel. Both are government agents and both are lacking in vital information. And of course, both stories are science fiction, and include out-of-this-world aspects. In this way, if The Prisoner is made by Nolan and is successful, it could overshadow any success Tenet accrued, and become Nolan's next franchise.
If Christopher Nolan still isn't convinced to continue on with Tenet, despite the recent rise in love for the film, then The Prisoner truly could put Nolan's potential film franchise at stake. Without any hope for a Tenet sequel, The Prisoner could take Tenet's place as Christopher Nolan's new sci-fi franchise.
