The Prime Minister told Tory MPs ‘she would not remain in post for the next phase of the negotiations’, MP James Cartlidge said as he left a meeting of the 1922 Committee in Westminster. Her resignation could be key to getting Brexiteers and the DUP to pass her deal – which has already been rejected twice.
The move comes two days after MPs wrested control of the Brexit process from her and took over Parliamentary business. Mrs May has indicated she will try to get her deal through Parliament a third time, possibly by the end of this week.Despite her announced departure, it is still unclear how, when or even if the UK will leave the European Union.
