Cheollima Civil Defence says information seized was shared in confidence with the FBI, before details of the raid were leaked.

Local police were only called after one woman managed to flee and alerted neighbours.

CCD claimed the information it obtained was later given to the FBI"under mutually agreed terms of confidentiality", which they said"appear to have been broken" after details about the raid emerged in the media. "It may take some more months of political theatre to realise Pyongyang is once again acting with treachery, and not before the regime emerges with even more capacity for great harm to others."

The FBI has also declined to comment on whether the identification of those allegedly involved in the raid could put their safety at risk, amid concern over potential North Korean reprisals.
