A fleet of new ambulances ready to be rolled out across NSW is instead sitting dormant, 7NEWS can reveal. Politicians had promised to open dozens of new stations. However, two years down the track, only one site has been locked in. The 70 new ambulances are parked in yards at Parramatta and Fairfield, with some awaiting final fits, while others are being rolled out. But the “expected completion date” on the vehicles has been left blank.
However, for almost all, suitable locations have not been found. The only site purchased so far was in North Sydney. Health Services Union secretary Gerard Hayes said: “The state-of-the-art equipment needs to be operational and on the road now.” NSW Ambulance director Peter Elliott said the agency was in partnership with suppliers across the state to “deliver the vehicles as soon as possible”.
