Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The beloved children's classic Matilda will be brought to the big screen in an all-new way with Matilda in Concert, featuring the New Jersey Symphony performing the score live. Matilda follows a brilliant young girl who loves reading but is misunderstood by those around her, including her family.
Danny DeVito: Well, this is one of my favorites, Matilda, it's always been. My kids, their friends, people grow up, their kids, they have kids, they watch it. It's like one of those things that... And I had a ball making it too. And so, a few years ago, David and I decided, we talked to Sony, we said we'd like to take the movie, and I went in, and we stripped out the sound, all the music, and my narration.
Stefan Czapsky, the director of photography, we went in, and we made a pristine, beautiful copy of it. The sound is really done with all the latest technology, and so I'm very, very proud of it. I'm really happy that we're able to do this. If we all help each other in that way, I think that's the message of the movie. I think that's why it resonates, kids show it to their cousins and show their little sisters and their brothers and whatever. And then we all grow up. My kids, Mara's going to be there, by the way, she's very, very excited. And I did a little reunion a bunch of years ago, I don't remember when exactly, but I had everybody over at my place for a garden party.
And so I found this out, that they were already contemplating doing the movie. So I insinuated myself and I said, "I've got to direct this film and play Wormwood." So it was appealing to everybody and we did it at TriStar, which is the Sony people. We shot it on the Sony lot and it was a blast. I just had so much fun doing it, working with the kids and working with Stefan Czapsky, he was a wonderful DP.
