Chicago prosecutors on Tuesday dropped criminal charges against"Empire" star Jussie Smollett, who had been accused of staging a phony hate crime against himself.
The dismissal means that records of the case will be sealed to public view. It is not clear whether the dismissal will affect a separate investigation by the FBI into a threatening letter sent to the production of"Empire" shortly before the alleged attack on Smollett. As of March 21, Fox Television is now owned by Disney. Disney was not immediately available to comment.
