Tasmanian contemporary art museum Mona has been taken to court after a male visitor made a complaint of discrimination against a section that was designated for ladies only.

A discrimination complaint has played out in court after a man was denied entry to a ladies-only section of artwork at a Tasmanian museum.

The Tasmania Civil and Administrative Tribunal played host to the legal battle with the NSW resident representing himself via video during the hearing, admitting he was “quite surprised” he was refused entry to the ladies’ lounge “on the basis I was male”, according to The Mercury. On the witness stand, Ms Kaechele said she created the ladies’ lounge to address inequality against women in response to a disparity between the number of works by male artists and female artists in Mona.
