New: You can now listen to articles.Hong Kong movie superstar Tony Leung clinched the award for Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards on Friday for his role in the crime drama, The Goldfinger.Cheng Yiyan, the morally questionable chairman of a Hong Kong conglomerate who’s the subject of an Independent Commission Against Corruption investigation spanning 15 years.
The Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards is regarded as a precursor for the Hong Kong Film Awards , taking place on Apr 14.For the upcoming HKFA, Leung is up against Dayo Wong from A Guilty Conscience, Bowie Lam from In Broad Daylight, Lo Chun Yip from Time Still Turns The Pages and Da Peng from Dust To Dust.
Other winners of the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Awards include Hong Kong actress Jennifer Yu, who won Best Actress for playing an investigative journalist who went undercover to expose abuse in a nursing home in the drama In Broad Daylight. The Best Picture award went to legal drama A Guilty Conscience, while Soi Cheang took home the Best Director trophy for mystery crime thriller Mad Fate.
