Ms Natoli, who has 27 per cent of the vote, is nearly 5,000 votes ahead of Ashley Robinson with 25 per cent and Jason O'Pray with 22 per cent with three quarters of the votes counted.The result is expected to come down to preferences with four candidates attracting at least 16 per cent of the vote. "Obviously they've been planning this for a long time and they were pretty effective at the polling booths."Mr Robinson, who runs Alexandra Headland surf club, said residents' rejection of Mr O'Pray showed people were sick of how the council had been operating.
"They're pretty well going to be able to shape the Sunshine Coast in the way they want to shape it," he said.In Noosa, Frank Wilkie has a strong lead in the race to become the region's next mayor with half of the votes counted.
