Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Peanuts rule of not showing adults had a loophole for one iconic character. For the duration of its multi-decade run, Peanuts creator Charles Schulz had a rule: never depict any adults and keep it a world of children. This helped make Peanuts a sensation not only in the comic strips, but also as a multimedia franchise. However, a loophole existed for one surprise character.

Being dogs, Snoopy’s parents were exempt, and they made appearances in several Peanuts strips over the years. In one, Snoopy mails a Father’s Day card to his dad, retired and living in Florida. Snoopy mentions there were eight in his litter, and when his father receives the card, there are eight paw-print signatures.

In another, Snoopy is visiting his bedridden brother Spike. Snoopy tells Spike that he wrote to their mother, and she is coming on a troopship to see him.Keeping Adults Out of the Peanuts Made it Unique It Kept the Focus on the Children--Who Were Far More Interesting Charles Schulz’s Peanuts changed the course of American comic strips with its blend of “slice of life” humor, which was mixed with some of the most fascinating characters to ever grace the medium.

Over the years, fans noticed the lack of adults present in Peanuts strips and cartoons. Adults were in some of the earlier Peanuts comics, but Schulz would take pains to obscure their features, leaving them mysterious and distant. Famously, when Charlie Brown and the gang interacted with adults in the Peanuts animated cartoons, the adults “voices” were actually composer Vince Guaraldi goofing around on a trombone.
