Robby Snelling will start on the mound Friday, when the Padres face the Mariners in the first-ever Spring Breakout prospect game

Four Padres pitching prospects spent Wednesday afternoon huddled in the kitchen of the house they share not far from the club's spring training complex. They were not having a good time. They flinched every time their phone pinged with a new text. They called their agents. Their eyes were glued to social media. In the end, Robby Snelling, Dylan Lesko, Adam Mazur and Ryan Bergert survived an important crash course lesson in the business of baseball. They were still Padres.

com top-100 prospects beyond Snelling and Lesko. Catcher Ethan Salas is eighth and shortstop-turned-center fielder Jackson Merrill is 12th. Merrill will no longer play in the prospect game as he’s expected to be in the opening day lineup in South Korea. Infielder Graham Pauley, No. 8 in the Padres’ top-30 list, is also off the board.
