His award-winning film, The Zone of Interest, shot in Poland and spoken in German, is an adaptation of Martin Amis's novel.

People across the world were glued to their screens on Sunday evening, March 10, to tune in to the 96th Academy Awards, which has produced some of television and film’s most iconic moments.

After hearing his name called, Glazer stepped onto the stage to accept the prestigious award, marking the first-ever Oscar win for Britain in this category. His award-winning film, shot in Poland and spoken in German, is an adaptation of Martin Amis's novel. Glazer’s speech brought perhaps even more contemporary relevance to the scene, where he said: “Right now we stand here as men who refute their Jewishness and the Holocaust being hijacked by an occupation which has led to conflict for so many innocent people, whether the victims of October 7 in Israel or the ongoing attack in Gaza.”

The Zone of Interest is the third in a line of British films to be nominated in this category, but the first to have won. The year 2000 saw Solomon & Gaenor - a Yiddish, Welsh and English love affair between an Orthodox Jew and a gentile woman in the South Wales valleys - on the list and seven years before that was the Welsh-language anti-war biopic Hedd Wyn.
