Gutoskie became avid baker during the pandemic after binge watching episodes of CBC's The Great Canadian Baking Show.

Josh Gutoskie made his fourth audition attempt for The Great Canadian Baking Show at a recent open casting.This baker from Ottawa's Blossom Park community hopes to make it to The Great Canadian Baking Show's big tent. Josh Gutoskie invited CBC News into his kitchen to show off how he puts together one of his showstopping desserts.When Josh Gutoskie started baking four years ago, he was just looking for something to do.

"I started off the same as everybody else," he said. "Then I kind of found my groove with cleaner lines, a little more upscale technique that you would find in a French pâtisserie." Josh Gutoskie became an avid baker during the pandemic after binge-watching episodes of CBC's The Great Canadian Baking Show.

Presentation and taste hold equal importance for Gutoskie. The home baker said he uses baking as a medium to express his creativity. Gutoskie's recent audition was his fourth attempt at getting in the mix. And even if he doesn't make the cut, he said it likely won't be his last. "I think Josh can get there," he said. "There just has to be that lightning in a bottle where it works."
