“My youngest daughter fell ill when she was seven. We were in and out of hospital having tests but everything came back normal.“She fainted three times and once she collapsed on the bathroom floor and stopped breathing. SOPHIE GRACE-HOLMES, 27, from Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when she was a baby. The personal trainer, speaker and sports massage therapist, says:“I look fit and healthy, so they simply don’t believe me.“I was born ten weeks early but, as my siblings had been premature, the doctors weren’t too concerned.“Luckily, there was a nurse on duty who recognised I might have cystic fibrosis. The tests came back positive.
“I HAD my first fit at 15 and after that, it snowballed. Doctors believe it was most likely brought on by a febrile convulsion I experienced when I was 18 months old.“I have different types of seizures, including big tonic-clonic ones where you fall to the ground and chew your tongue. They can last for up to five minutes.“I also have between seven and 15 partial fits a day. They can last for up to eight seconds.“People who don’t know me wouldn’t even necessarily know I’m having a fit.
“My epilepsy will never go away. I just have to hope it gets better and make the most of life in the meantime.”AMY BAKER, 26, an architecture student from Canterbury in Kent, has lupus, an autoimmune condition that attacks the joints, skin, brain, heart and lungs. She says:
