A review of a film that fictionalizes the story of Rudolf Höss, the Nazi commandant of Auschwitz, and meticulously rebuilds his house near the camp's walls.

After the film's title fades to black, writer-director Jonathan Glazer makes his audience sit in the dark for more than two minutes as the dissonant wash of Mica Levi's score surrounds them. The movie is based on a fictionalized version of Rudolf Höss, the Nazi commandant of Auschwitz.

The production meticulously rebuilt Höss and his wife Hedwig's house in the shadow of the camp's walls.
