It seems Cillian Murphy was always destined for superstardom. From the moment he took to the stage as a young lad at school, his love for performing grew and grew. Firstly, he followed his dream as a musician before honing his craft in theatre and landing high profile roles. But it was his portrayal of gang leader Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders that made him a household name.
He attended the fee-paying Presentation Brothers College, and while he was academic, he has readily admitted he didn’t focus on his studies. So, instead, he focused on acting, taking part in UCC productions, but it was his role in Enda Walsh’s play Disco Pigs that put him on the map in 1996. The show ended in 2022, and fans may have thought this was the high point in Cillian’s career. However, Christopher Nolan was determined to make a film with Cillian in the lead role, and he finally achieved that with Oppenheimer.
