David Williams has endured a turbulent life but finds joy in dance and music

David Williams, known to some as Disco Dave, is keen to show off his moves any chance he gets. The 89-year-old from West Derby currently lives with his daughter, Lisa, and his son-in-law, John. Last year, David sadly lost his wife, Joyce, after 65 years together. Following Joyce's death Dave was diagnosed with dementia and his family, along with John's sister Lynda, became full-time carers which is when they discovered the desperate extent of his situation.

John said: 'After that, we think we figured out how to help him. Because of his dementia, he often doesn't know where he is or recognises people but he knows all the old songs and words so he has confidence and starts to dance. People see him and it makes them happy and he becomes happy himself because that's the guy he's always been. He wants to make people happy. 'Lynda struggles with anxiety too but the events have been great for everyone.
