Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Star Wars franchise has continually evolved throughout its nearly 50-year run, making it hard to determine when it was the best time to be a fan. Each trilogy has taken the saga in a new direction, and the various Star Wars generations experienced the franchise differently, either embracing new releases or sticking with the old.

Aside from the moviegoing experience, Star Wars radically changed the film industry and pop culture. Filmmakers were inspired by what Lucas had achieved, and movie studios had their work cut out for them to match the standard Star Wars had set for visual effects. Star Wars expanded through merchandising, parodies, news specials, books, comics, etc. The only downside to this era was the uncertainty after the original trilogy ended, as Lucas was unsure if he would return to make new movies.

Every Saga Has A Beginning 1999 - 2005 It wouldn't be an understatement to say that Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace was the most highly anticipated movie of all time when it was first released. Star Wars would finally return to the big screen after 16 years, completing the saga by showing the events that led to the original trilogy. The Phantom Menace was a box office hit, praised by many critics and fans, and won over a new generation of kids.

As The Clone Wars continued, Lucas was developing the franchise's first live-action series, Star Wars: Underworld , which would have been set on Coruscant after Revenge of the Sith . Of course, there was concern over what this new era of Star Wars would look like, and Disney made several controversial decisions. The Clone Wars was unceremoniously canceled after five seasons in 2013, leaving many story arcs unresolved, and only 12 more episodes were released on Netflix the following year.

Star Wars Sequels And Spinoffs 2015 - 2019 Star Wars: The Force Awakens had its long-awaited premiere in 2015, becoming a commercial hit and a global phenomenon. The movie captured the magic of the original trilogy while winning over a new generation of fans, building excitement for the franchise's future. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story became the first theatrically released live-action Star Wars spinoff film, continuing the success started by The Force Awakens.
