The Food and Drug Administration is urging food service customers in 15 states to throw out or return bags of shredded cotija, parmesan, Swiss, white cheddar and other cheeses distributed by Sargento over concerns of a potential listeria contamination, which the company says is limited to businesses that purchased the products and has no impact on its cheese in stores.
The potentially contaminated bags were sold in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Nevada, Ohio, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin. Sargento said in a press release that it distributed the products it receiving from Rizo-López Foods, adding: “This recall did not impact Sargento-branded products.”responsible for two deaths and two dozen illnesses across 11 states. Rizo-López Foods sells its products under several brand names,365 Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe's branded items. The items recalled by Sargento were supplied by Rizo-López Foods Inc. or packaged on the same lines, the company said.
