The Bexar County District Attorney’s Office did not respond to repeated messages from KSAT about the decision to move on from the felony charge against Brennand, who was on duty in October 2022 when he repeatedly shot Cantu as the teen tried to back up his car and drive away.. He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault by a public servant and one count of attempted murder.

Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales, who made an appearance for the San Antonio City Council meeting on Thursday morning, repeatedly declined to comment when asked by KSAT reporter Garrett Brnger about the reindictment.
