So it was fitting the 2019 Melbourne Food and Wine Festival closed with a street party on Sunday for the icon of the city's cafe culture – co-owner of Pellegrini’s cafe – who was killed in November's Bourke Street terror attack.
His family mingled among the stylishly dressed. There was colour and, of course, cravats. Baby granddaughter Sophia was handed around among gathered nonnas. For Sisto's son David, it was a chance to relive the cafe's old days."But I'd only ever seen it in the old photos. It's nice, people meandering through, no traffic, everyone in good spirits. It's very European."
He still thinks about Sisto all the time. He had to pull over in his car the other day and just cry. But Sisto lives on, Nino said. When the neon lights of Pellegrini's flickered out, Nino called out to Paul, who left his post serving granitas and coffee at the espresso cart to duck inside.
He was such a flirt 😉😢
Beautiful stuff 😉💕
A great man who made an incredible impression. I’m truly blessed that we had so many discussions across the counter Thanks Sisto
