There has been nearly double the number of Loyalist paramilitary assaults in Northern Ireland since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement compared with those from Republican groups.
The past three years have also seen the lowest number of injuries from paramilitary style attacks, with 51 in 2021, 33 in 2022 and 50 in 2023. Of the 3300 victims of paramilitary style attacks, more than 560 were against young people aged 18 or younger. In BT37 there were 95 shootings and 86 assaults, however no shootings took place after 2015. In BT48 there were 98 shootings and 83 assaults, with nine shootings taking place from 2020 to February 13, 2023.
Temporary Detective Superintendent Avine Kelly from the Police Service’s Organised Crime Branch said: “Paramilitary-style attacks are appalling acts of violence against some of the most vulnerable members of our communities.
