People will be gathering in Oshawa to show solidarity with Ukraine as the world marks two years since the invasion began.

“We are there to support our brothers and sisters in Ukraine,” said Darlene Matyczak, from the board of directors of the Dnipro Oshawa Fund, in an interview with Durham Radio News. “And we will continue to do so and will do all that it takes.” Saturday’s rally is being organized by the Dnipro Oshawa Fund, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress Oshawa/Durham, St. George’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The groups have spent the last two years raising funds for humanitarian aid and supporting people settling in Canada.“It would be absolutely heartwarming to see a lot of people show up on the bridge with us,” said Matyczak.

The Oshawa event mirrors others across the country on Saturday. Toronto’s chapter of the Ukrainian-Canadian Congress is organizing a rally at Nathan Phillips Square at 3 p.m., at least 10,500 civilians have been killed since the invasion started. At least 587 of them were children.
