On June 22, 1997, Gold Coast mum-of-two Marion Barter left Australia for what she thought would be the trip of a lifetime – a year-long odyssey to the UK and Europe. The 51-year-old had sold her house and quit her job, gushing to family and friends about her upcoming adventure, which included a high-class journey on the Orient Express train service. They haven’t seen Barter since.

At the time, he was using the name Fernand Remakel.
