Reinforcements will arrive to bolster firefighters battling a large bushfire in western Victoria as hot conditions set in across parts of NSW. Thousands of residents from almost 30 communities in Victoria’s west near Ballarat were told to evacuate on Thursday when an emergency warning and watch-and-act alerts were issued.
West Victoria residents told to evacuate homes over bushfire emergency in Ballarat. About 1000 firefighters were battling the blaze on Thursday evening including those operating 15 water bombing aircraft. Victorian Country Fire Authority chief officer Jason Heffernan expected there would be a “large operation” on Friday to contain control lines and reinforcements would arrive as soon as possible.
