Bob Marley: One Love celebrates the life and music of an icon who inspired generations through his message of love and unity. At its best, the film is a serviceable 104 minutes of your standard biopic fanfare; at its worst, One Love is a diluted, formulaic and forgettable product straight from the Hollywood assembly line. Starring Kingsley Ben-Adir, it makes the legendary reggae artist dull.
Marley is a musical giant; his cultural footprint and popularity are still felt almost 43 years after his death. Though an inspiration for millions, Marley's personal flaws were well-known, too, especially his extra-marital affairs. One Love attempts to be an ode to his legacy and bring the star closer to Earth, but instead, it sanitises and robs him of complexity. The special quality that made Marley so important to generations of music lovers is nowhere to be found in the film
