David Wood's stage adaptation of Judith Kerr's classic offers delightful half-term entertainment mixed with some learning by stealth

There was Tabby McTat - he’s the busker’s cat, for those not in the know. And there was Mog, whose fear of her family’s Christmas tree was the more innocent of the two recent releases to unfold to the soundtrack of Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

The tiger who entertains on the Playhouse stage is a very different beast to that of the cartoon. His plush fur, polite manners and immature dancing skills make him a figure of fun not fear. That is crucial to a show that will entertain children from across Merseyside over this half-term.
