Newly-formed ATA party says taxi industry deserves recognition via SABCNewsOnline

The newly-formed political party, the Alliance for has not ruled out the possibility of getting into a coalition with other political parties after 8 May elections.

The party officially launched its 2019 election manifesto at Khayelitsha’s Mandela Park Stadium in Cape Town earlier on Saturday. ATA Presidential Spokesperson, Sabelo Dumezweni says with more than a million registered taxis in the country and generating R15 billion a year, the industry cannot be ignored.

Dumezweni, says among the things they will do if they win, is to subsidise every legal taxi by R12 000 per month and to reduce commuter fares by half. “We are a party of the people entrenched in the communities. We wake up communities and send them to work. We are the ambulances of our communities. Our people must vote for us. The benefit is not for the taxi industry. It is to them – the communities.”

ATA says it stands for a non-racial society. Dumezweni says the party will contest elections nationally and in seven provinces, except Limpopo and the Northern Cape.
