Sequels,Standalone Sequels,Movies

A sequel, by definition, is a direct follow-up to another movie, but some sequels have little or no relation to their predecessors. They're called standalone sequels, and a surprisingly high number of them exist. Sometimes, it's simply because the series wants to veer off and try something new — perhaps to start an anthology series. However, in other cases, it's because putting a "2" after the original's title is an easy way to capitalize on the first film's success. Therefore, the quality of sequels that don't connect to their original movies varies greatly. Some are genuine attempts to evolve a franchise, while others are churned out without much thought. Regardless, they make interesting viewing for curious movie fans, especially those who loved the films that came first in the series
