Brian Kennedy revealed he has Joni Mitchell to thank for helping him find his way back to music after his health battle left his voice in tatters and having to relearn how to walk again.
“She comes from a different time and I come from a different time but I feel so connected and I’m not sure why," said Kennedy. Kennedy added: “But I finally got over all of that and now here I am singing up a storm and so happy with how the songs have turned out and my performance and what a way to find a way back to music than via Joni Mitchell.”
Kennedy added: “So I became a fan as a I got older and started learning her tuning and songs and then they really influenced the way I approached things. And then I started working with Van Morrison for a long time and one of the tours we did in America was with Van, Joni and Bob Dylan. The singer is busy bringing the new music on the road with a Dublin show at St Ann’s Church on December 16 and at Hinch Distillery, Co Down on Friday December 8, before heading on tour in China next year.
“I mean certainly life is different in your late 50s and when you’ve been through hellish situations but I would like to think I’m kind of sensible about it and just getting on with it and we will see what happens.”
