The eight former members of Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s VIP Protection Unit have finally shown their faces after making aThe eight accused had previously been allowed to cover their faces as an identity parade had not yet been done. It was finally conducted last month.
The officers who are currently out on R10 000 bail each, face 12 charges including assault, malicious damage to property, discharging a firearm, contravening the Road Traffic Act, reckless and negligent driving and attempting to defeat the ends of justice.
The NPA says it believes it has sufficient evidence to bring a strong case before court against Deputy President Paul Mashatile's VIP protection guards who stand accused of assaulting civilians on the N1 in Johannesburg.The case will continue in 2024 with disclosure of evidence, which has been set down for the first week of January, while trial will be heard from 6-10 May 2024.
