A Brisbane toddler was still strapped into the back seat of a car when it was allegedly stolen, in a terrifying experience for the child’s mother. A 32-year-old woman has been charged with child stealing after allegedly driving off with the 18-month-old child in the back seat just after midday Sunday, while the mother was standing nearby in the carpark of a Saint Paul’s Terrace building in Spring Hill.
The mother tracked the vehicle through her phone to Leichardt St, where she attempted to restrain the driver. The mother, 33, sustained minor injuries in doing so. Police say members of the public then helped detain the alleged offender until officers arrived a short time later. The toddler was unharmed. The 32-year-old woman, of no fixed address, was charged with one count each of child stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and unlicensed driving.
