Mitch Marsh will make an imminent return to the Cricket World Cup in India after flying home to Perth to be with his family. A member of one of Australian cricket’s most famous families, the 32-year-old is in mourning following the death of his grandfather Ross on Friday. Marsh had played every match of Australia’s World Cup campaign before taking leave from Saturday’s victory over England in India. Australian players wore black armbands during the match in memory of Ross.
Geoff’s father Ted died in 2008 just days before Shaun was called up for a Test tour of India. “It’s been a tough week for the family but I’m looking forward to getting over there and, hopefully, if I get a game, I’ll be able to do it for Pop,” Shaun said at the time. “I gave Dad a call. He’s pretty happy. He’s had a tough few days so hopefully it lifts him up a little bit.” This week, Mitch promised his teammates that he would be back “to win this World Cup” after grieving his grandfather Ross.
