The future of Red Bull’s second seat is the talk of the Formula One paddock in Brazil after a wild week of racing and rumours at the Mexico City Grand Prix. Australian veteran Daniel Ricciardo remains firmly in the mix for a promotion to partner Max Verstappen in 2024 if Sergio Perez is dropped by the reigning champions with a year to run on his contract. Perez had a horror outing at his home grand prix in Mexico last week, crashing himself out of the race on lap one.
“These rumours are coming from people that are just social media guys, they want just some followers. It’s a shame and I will make sure there are consequences.” The driver did not offer any further explanation on what those “consequences” might be. His firm denial, though, has ensured the spotlight is entirely on Perez and Ricciardo for the remaining three races of the season in Sao Paulo, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.
