“Everyone is going to be watching. Everyone is going to be talking about it so let’s bring it on. Let’s bring it on like it’s Donkey Kong. Have a great game,” Ferrell said in a video posted on X. There will be several fundraisers as part of the game, with the money going to Lewiston Strong, which helps victims and families.
Lewiston's athletic director hopes the game will bring a little bit of normalcy to a community that's hurting. He also wants to spread the word that the teams will be honoring many people connected to the tragedy.“We want to do it the right way,” Lewiston Athletic Director Jason Fuller said. “It's a game. There are bigger things on everybody's mind right now, pause, exhale, we want to make sure I know everybody is thinking about the victims, those injured, our first responders.
Lewiston's school superintendent says the two communities, Lewiston and Auburn, have ties that flow back and forth, and in a lot of ways, they are one community.
