Jockey Daniel Moor has been forced out of the Melbourne Cup carnival after a favour for a colleague went pear-shaped. The 39-year-old suffered a concussion in an incident with a horse at Cranbourne jump-outs on Monday. Moor suffered immediate symptoms but actually got back on the horse to finish the trial, feeling worse after its conclusion. He has now been stood down from riding for 12 days in line with Racing Victoria’s jockey concussion protocols.

“You’ve just got to be quick enough to get your head out of the way and unfortunately this time I wasn’t,” he said. Moor had been due to ride Snapback at Flemington on Saturday in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes worth $2 million. He did not have a ride in the Melbourne Cup itself but was chasing an opportunity that had opened up. Moor said he is now “feeling fine” but it remains “very frustrating and disappointing” to be ruled out of the carnival and blocked from doing trackwork for a few days.
