The plaintiff alleges that Oscar-nominated screenwriter Douglas Day Stewart sexually assaulted her on a movie set in B.C. and then lured her to Nova Scotia and L.A. where the abuse continued.

A Hollywood screenwriter is being sued for allegedly sexually assaulting a teenage extra on a movie set in B.C. in 1994 and then luring her to Nova Scotia and Los Angeles where the alleged exploitation continued.

The 42-year-old plaintiff, who now lives in England, says she was a Grade 11 student and dreamed of being an actress when she saw a newspaper ad by the Walt Disney Company that was looking for local extras for a movie being filmed around Campbell River. When filming ended, Stewart invited her to a wrap party, with the “awestruck” plaintiff feeling honoured to attend.

“ asked if she would have further work, and Mr. Stewart assured her that he could get her a part, but also wanted her to come to Nova Scotia to keep him company,” the plaintiff claims. The plaintiff claims she was later lured to Mexico and the U.S. under false pretences and, after a falling out with Stewart, ended up dependent on alcohol as a coping mechanism and turning to sex work to survive.
