There is little argument that Henrik Fisker is an extremely talented designer. He has crafted some stunning automobiles over the course of the past three decades including the BMW Z8, Aston Martin V8 Vantage and the eponymous Karma. Equally undeniable is his lack of success so far as an automotive entrepreneur. Fisker Automotive crashed and burned and his new company, Fisker Inc. has shown only a concept version of an electric sedan.
The new electric SUV has a planned price of under $40,000. The debut of this new model is the first of several entries that targeted as affordable, yet luxurious vehicles. This marks a major shift in Fisker’s product plan. When the EMotion sedan that was first shown at CES in 2018, Fisker announced that it would go into production in 2020 with an industry-first solid-state battery pack that was developed in-house.
In the meantime, Fisker hopes to launch the new SUV in the second half of 2021, but even that is likely to be optimistic. At this point, Fisker has yet to secure a location for a plant which it plans to locate in the U.S.
