Terminator 7 is in the works, and the sequel could wind up being the final nail in the franchise's coffin, but there are still some story directions worth trying that could save these movies. The Terminator franchise, which began in 1984 and has so far reached six movies, a television show, and two web series, has been showing signs of fatigue for some time, so the seventh film installment is a big risk. But it also has the potential to completely revitalize the series.
9 Practical Effects Make no mistake, nobody wants to see practical effects like the ones in the first Terminator movie in the 21st century. However, the field of practical effects has progressed significantly since 1984, and the use of more in the Terminator franchise would be most welcome. Practical effects have more impact, as they make the subject more plausible. CGI is, of course, necessary in a sci-fi franchise like Terminator.
7 An Old School Soundtrack One of the most important aspects of any great movie is its soundtrack. Brad Fiedel's music in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day was fantastic for the franchise. It's mechanical and robotic and ideally suited to the nature of the movies. It feels menacing; whenever the music plays with a Terminator on screen, the threat of the eponymous character is almost tangible. More recently, the music in the franchise has become generic, dull, and routine.
4 A Story From The Terminator's Perspective Since the Terminator franchise came to be, the eponymous machines have mainly been mindless, controlled, programmed creations with defined instructions they must follow. The films, therefore, have focused mainly on human protagonists. However, it would be interesting if Terminator 7 focused on AI and some Terminators for the first time, as James Cameron suggested.
