Monmouth University has announced plans to raise $45M to create the new Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.

must hit all the rights notes on a building project that aims to be more than just a tribute to the Boss.

“Part of the university’s mission it to teach, to educate and further the conversation about American music,” said Zach Craun the architect designing the building for COOLFOX, a New York-based firm. “American music is a continuum, and Springsteen is part of that continuum. This building will tell that story.”The ‘story’ is the history of rock n’ roll, at least in part and as seen through the eyes of a 12-year-old boy from Freehold watching the Ed Sullivan Show.

In a nod to Springsteen’s Jersey Shore roots, the floor will resemble a boardwalk. And the walls will be made of weathered steel, recalling the blue-collar characters and rust belt settings that Springsteen often sings about.
